Shina plywood is the preferred block carving material for mokuhanga artists. It takes crisp cuts and retains detail while still being easy to carve.

We do not recommend shina be sanded as it's dust can be irritating. However, when carved it is safe and enjoyable to use.

This plywood uses five layers of shina wood, making it soft and easy to carve, suitable for woodblock printing blocks.
